Aramoana Lesson?
(N.Z. Prjiss Association) WELLINGTON. May 29. Perhaps a lesson could be learned from the speed and efficiency of the Aramoana. the chairman of the inter-pro-vincial conference of Federated Farmers (Mr H. M. Linklater) said today. Commenting that nearly a sixth of the value of a lamb was absorbed in freight costs, he suggested that Aramoana principles could be applied to overseas shipping. “If ships were built with large ports in the stern or the side through which fork-lift machines could carry prepacked cargo, loading time could probably be reduced from weeks to days or even hours,’’ he said.
