Ski Club Considers Labour Problems
A proposal to increase the annual subscription for senior active members and give a discount for attending working parties did not find favour at ths annual genarsl meeting of the Canterbury Winter Sports Club. It was said that this had been tried by several ski clubs and found to be Impracticable. Instead, the club decided to Instruct the executive to review and adjust the ski-tow and hut fee* each season and give members who had attended working parties or done work in town a reduction. As skl-lng had increased tn popularity the demand had grown for improved facilities, and the problem of getting sufficient voluntary labour In the off-season for maintenance
and bulldinf had Incraaaid. It waa aald. A present-day ski club had many thounuxit of pound* tied up In bulldtagg and equipment.
Improved Facilities The club, which has Its field at Cheeseman. about M mJos from Christchurch, has Improved Its tow faculties. The access tow has been extended to within a few feet of the top car park and has been powered with a 45 horsepower diesel motor. The main tow has been installed with a more powerful diesel motor. A new drying room. staff room for a married caretaker couple, and storeroom have been built into the Cheqseman Lodge on the ski field, and the bottom hut has been renovated. The materials salvaged from the wrecked middle hut have been used to construct another hut at the top car perk. Extensive work hat been done on the road which leads in to the field from the Main West road. Officers elected for the comini year were as follows: Patron. Mrs F. A. Brittan; president. Mr G. Baudlnet; vice-presidents. Dr. W. M. Platts and Mr T. T. Robins: secretary, Mr R. Morten; treasurer. Mr J. B. Taylor; trip were ter y. Mrs T. T. Robins; club captain. Mr P. Corner; committee Mesdames R. Gibson and J. C. Mahar, Messrs W. A. Yates, A. H. Willis, and P. Preston.
