Transfer Of Three Taxi Licences Approved
Three applications for the transfer of continuous taxi service licence* were b?ard before the first sitting ot the Christchurch Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. S. Hayward) yesterday. The authority replaces the Christchurch Metropolitan Licensing Authority under amendments to the Transport Act which came into force on May. 1.
An application by Brian Watson Dingwall (Mr R. F. B Perry) for the transfer of a continuous taxi service licence from W'illiam Robert Cummings, of Christchurch, was granted Mr G C. P Beadle appeared for the vendor In support of the application. Mr D L. Hogan appeared for the Transport Department.
Dingwall said he had first driven a taxi four years before. He was to pay £2OOO for the goodwill of the business. The authority also granted an application by Alexander Kahl <Mr X J McMenamini for the transfer of a continous taxi service licence from Edwin David Neave. of Christchurch Mr McMenamin said the whole of rhe purchase price of £3200 was being supplied by the applicants' brother, a successful professional musician Kahi said the intenUon was that his brother would share in the business when he returned from engagements in Australia He said he had been a tram driver for two years until they were abolished, ar.d had then driven buses.
Neave said the price of the business comprised £2OOO for the goodwill and £l2OO for the vehicle and equipment He had been In the business for six years. ■T think the family arrangement can be treated as satis factory." said the Authority in granting the application An apolieatlon by Derek Walter Robinson and John Malcolm Kissel) for the transient a taxi licence from Robot’ Lindsay Hanna of Chriatchurch was also granted Mr R G. Blunt appeared for both applicants. Robinson said in evidence he had been driving taxis since 1956 It was intended he and Kissell would enter into a formal partnership agreement and the cab would be on the road virtually 2-1 hours a day
To Mr Hogan, Robinson Mid he felt the cab would' support two persons. Klssell said he had been driving taxis for four years. The price of the business was £2750.
The Authority expressed some concern at the rate of repayment the applicants would have to make each week for the financing of the purchase. The applicants in all three applications expressed their intention of working with Gold Band Taxis.
