National Reunion
To Begin Today
An unusual feature of the 2nd Divisional Cavalry Regiment’s reunion in Christchurch will be the first public display of the Queen’s Colour and the regimental colour of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment in Christchurch Cathedral on Sunday. The regimental colour bears the battle honours of the cavalrymen, as both regiments are affiliated.
The colours were presented by the Governor-Genera] (Sir Barnard Fergusson) at Linton Camp in February They are being brought to Christchurch bv the adjutant (Captain D. McLeod). They will be displayed under a guard provided by the Christchurch squadron of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment in the main porch of the Cathedral between 9 a.m. and 10.15 a.m The national reunion, held every three years, will be attended by about 350 former servicemen and their wives, who are coming from all parts of the Dominion. This evening men will attend a smoke concert at the Linwood R.S.A. hall, and a social function for wives will be held at Elizabeth House. Tomorrow many of the men will attend the Rugby test at Lancaster Park, and in the evening a cabaret will be held at the Addington racecourse tea kiosk.
On Sunday the regiment will hold a church parade. The men will assemble outside the Clarendon Hotel and march to the War Memorial in the Cathedral grounds. The service, due to begin at 9.15 am., will be conducted by the Bishop of Christchurch 'the Rt. Rev A. K Warren) a former padre of the regiment. The parade will be led by pipes and drums of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment
On Sunday afternoon a function will be held in the Linwood RS A. hail, at which regimental films made during World War II will be shown. A cocktail party afterwards will end the reunion.
