Party Trying West Ridge

Two Americans and about 12 Sherpas left a base camp yesterday on their way to launch an assault on the 29,028 ft peak of Everest by the untried west ridge route, an expedition spokesman said, according to American Associated Press. The expedition spokesman said of Wednesday’s successful ascent that the two-man team was on the peak for half an hour, and the temperature in very high winds there was estimated at 30 below zero, Fahrenheit. Both climbers could aee in all directions except east, which was veiled by clouds. They looked down the aweinspiring north face in Tibet and they could make out the Rongbuk glacier, and the Rongbuk monastery in Tibet.
