April 16 The Indonesian Communist Party (P.K.1.) today attacked the big Army-backed Sobsi trade union federation for advocating that capitalism in Indonesia be abolished entirely An editorial in the official party newspaper. “Harian Rakyat.” said Sobsi’s leaders “did not know what they were saying” when they reiected the capitalist system in a series of speeches in Palembang. south Sumatra, recently Sobsi’s statements were “detrimental” to President Soekarno’s economic declaration of last month outlining a two-year national programme to curb inflation, boost home production and restrict imports, the newspaper said. President Soekarno had made it clear “that at present it is impossible to create a Socialist economic structure that is non-capitalist.” “What is possible is an economic structure, national and democratic in nature, but free from the remnants of imperialism and feudalism,” “Hitian Rakyat*’ said. The newspaper said the Sobsi leaders were guilty of what President Soekarno himself had referred to as “left-wing opportunism” and were “endangering the revolution” with their tactics “What the Indonesian revolution needs from its supporters is clear understanding of jts nature, its enemies, its Socialist purpose and its future it does not want confused understanding,” “Harian Rakyat” added.
