HARBOUR BOARD
Status Claim
By Engineer
Mr J. A. Cashin, engineer-in-ch ief of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, is pressing a claim to be appointed engineer-manager and for the successor to Mr A. L. Burk, the retiring secretarymanager. to be secretarytreasurer.
The board recently appointed Mr A. I. R. Jamieson, the City Council’s airport manager, to succeed Mr Burk; and notice of appeal against the appointment was then given by Mr A. J. Sowden, the board’s treasurer, A circular letter has now been sent to bohrd members by Mr Cashin recalling that he applied to the staff committee last November to be made engineer-manager, and that in February he applied for the position of engineermanager or engineersecretary. While Mr Cashin has not appealed under the Harbours Act against Mr Jamieson’s appointment, he suggests to members that when the appeal tribunal considers Mr Sowden's appeal it should also consider the points he had raised.
No decision has yet been made on the date for the appeal tribunal sitting or on the board’s representative on it The chairman (Mr A. A. Macfarlane) and the deputychairman (Mr F. I. Sutton) are to meet tomorrow to discuss the situation that arose with Mr Sowden’s appeal.
