ONE CANOE SMASHED
Journey Down Mohaka River
(N.Z Press Association) WAIROA, April 14.
Eight canoeists attempting the difficult 50-mile journey down the Mohaka river have made slow progress. The river has some of the worst “white water" in the North Island. Mr F. Smart, of Auckland, retired when his canoe was smashed on rocks in the river on Saturday morning. He suffered no injury. The other canoes are 24 hours behind schedule.
The party left a point where the river crosses the Napier-Taupo main highway at 11.30 a.m. on Friday and covered 16 miles that day.
