Missing Sheep Farmer

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, March 29. The body of a man found in the Kakanui hills west of Oamaru was identified today as that of Thomas Douglas Wright, a 48-year-old sheepfarmer. of Dansey Pass, who went missing from his home on October 11, 1961. Mr A. J Muldrew. manager of the sheep station, who found the body, was riding round stock at the time. He reported the discovery to the Oamaru police, and today Constables R. J. Johnston. P. T Kennedy and C H. Price went into the area with Mr Muldrew and Detec-tive-Sergeant E G. Ward, now of Timaru. who was in charge of the search for Mr Wright 17 months ago Because of the rough nature of the country, the body was not bro“ght out today. A .303 rifle was found alongside the body When the search was made in October, 1961, more than 160 men from all parts of the Maniototo district assisted Ten policemen and a police dog took part in the search. Snowdrifts up to six feet deep hampered the searchers, but the rough country was searched up to about 4000 ft The body was found ‘about three hours’ walking distance from where Mr Wright’s tr :cl was found 17 months ago.
