Mr Justice Haslam assumed relieving duty in the Supreme Court in Christchurch yesterday, and will continue with sittings until the Court’s Easter recess on April 10. Mr C. W. Markham, superintendent of the Antarctic Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, was in Christchurch yesterday for preliminary discussions about next year’s Antarctic programme with Rear-Admiral J. R. Reedy, commander of the United States Antarctic support force. Mr M. A. Carson, general secretary of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association, retired yesterday after 30 years’ service.—(P.A)
