MINISTER’S WIFE
Mrs Eyre Will Go To Europe (NX. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 28. When the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre) leaves next week for Paris to attend the Ministers’ conference of the South-east Asia Treaty Organisation, Mrs Eyre will also be travelling—but probably not in the same plane, and not at the taxpayers’ expense. She will fly to England in a 8.0.A.C. Comet as a guest of the corporation on its inaugural jet flight from New Zealand to London. Later she will join Mr Eyre in London and Paris, as the guest offer includes the right of independent return to New Zealand free of charge. Asked tonight what the policy was concerning payment of overseas expenses for the wives of Ministers, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said: “I do not think there is a policy. Independent decisions have been made from time to time.”
