VETERANS’ TOURNEY
Top Qualifier Defeated (N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU. March 27. A gusty wind did not affect the low scoring, which has been a feature of the New Zealand women’s veterans' golf tournament. at Timaru today. Mrs S. Laurenson (Temuka) made good use of her eightstroke margin against the top qualifier and winner of the Curtis Cuo for best gross score, Mrs G. Palmer (Oamaru) to score a 5 and 4 win in the second round. In the first round she beat Mrs D. A V. Hudson, of Christchurch. 3 and 2. The former New Zealand champion, Mrs J. C. Temper, of Geraldine, on a 13 handicap, recorded wins against Mrs H. Davies (Christchurch) at the twenty.first and against Mrs R. G. Edward (Christchurch). 6 and 4. The other semi-finaltsts are Mrs I. D. James (Timaru) and Miss H. R. Buchanan (Christchurch ).
Mrs James beat Miss W. L. Tizard (Timaru). 2 and 1. and Mrs A. I Charles (Christchurch I, 1 up. Miss Buchanan beat Mrs W. Murdoch (Milton) at the nineteenth, and Miss E. M. B. Nutt (Christchurch). 3 and 2.
