Car Was A Wreck

"The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, February 20. The car concerned in the Children’s Court case at Lower Hutt was described by a constable as a wreck that looked as if it had collided with a tank or had been thrown off a tall building. On December 14 the youthful driver was warned by a ptdice constable not to use it again, Three hours later the car was again on the road. Charges of driving without a licence and without a warrant of fitness, operating a vehicle in a condition liable to cause injury or damage, operating a vehicle after receiving a notice in writing from a <onstable prohibiting its use, and having the registration plates and licence improperly attached were laid against the driver.

The same car in the same condition, but without lights, almost collided with a police patrol car at midnight on January 19. On this occasion the owner was a passenger and another youth was driving.

On the second appearance in Court the two youths were fined a total of £35 and ordered to pay costs of £l3 10s. The Magistrate ruled that he could not accede to a police application for destruction of the car.
