No Powers For Destruction (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 19. “There is nothing in the traffic regulations which empowers a traffic officer or a constable to order a vehicle off the roads for keeps,” said the N%w Zealand Traffic Superintendent, Mr J; C. C. Edwards, today. He had been asked to comment on a statement by a Magistrate in a lower Hutt Children’s Court recently that the Bench had no power to order the destruction of a derelict vehicle. "All we can do is to order the unsafe vehicle off until it is made safe and roadworthy,” said Mir Edwards. Mr Edwards added: “If, in spite of that direction, It is Still run, why, we order it off again, advising the courts of course, and the courts, if they think fit, can impose a fine of £5O for each offence.”
