One hundred and eleven classes of the tutorial type were conducted by the Workers’ Education Association during 1962, states the annual report of the association. The total enrolment of these classes was 3118. The number of classes tor the year was up by two but enrolments were down by 860. The average attendance at lectures was 70 per cent The report says that three lunch-hour courses were conducted in factories, and public lectures were given at the association's centre. Eighteen full-length courses of 17 or more lecture* were held.

Manual workers, with 399 enrolment*, constituted the largest number of males who enrolled. There were 271 enrolments from professional and managerial men and 224 from office workers and salesmen.

Of the 2040 enrolments by women 1084 were housewives. Office workers totalled 327 while teachers, nurses, professional and managerial were almost equal in numbers and totalled 326. says the report.

The annual summer school at Richmond, Nelson, was attended by 10 W.E.A. clubs and was very successful The following officers were elected for 1963: president, Mr A. A. Dingwall; vicepresident, Mr H. W. Beaumoot; members’ representative on the Dominion council of the W.E.A., Messrs J. R. Dunmill and H W. Mclntosh. The association ha* received a bequest of £lOO from the estate of Catherine Riordan.
