BURNSIDE ROLL OF 1035
Forecast For Next Year
The Burnside High School’s roll next year is likely to be 1035 if a recent survey of pupils intending to return is correct and if new enrolments are no more than this year’s. Although the headmaster (Mr C. Cross) said at a meeting of the school board last evening that he would prefer smaller numbers, board members considered that the figures showed that the school was well regarded and fully accepted. The board will ask the Education Department to add four more rooms to its latest block to cope with the expected increase in roll. These were some of the effects of rising numbers reported last evening:— This year's roll is 920, with an intake of 282 and larger numbers in the fourth and fifth forms. Distribution of nearly 10,000 text-books was necessary on the day school opened. Bumside has 812 bicycle stands, but needs 897 to serve all who ride to school. A great deal of new equipment is arriving for upper forms. Now in its fourth year, Bumside is applying for authority to accredit for university entrance. The first prefects, 12 girls and 12 boys, were recently appointed.
We are not satisfied to be right, unless we oan prove others to be wrong.—HazlMt.
