SHOP CASH THEFT

DUNEDIN. February 14.
Appearing before Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today, Dorothy Margaret Young, aged 49. a clerical worker, was remanded in custody for one week for sentence on two charges of theft from D.1.C., Ltd. She pleaded guilty. The charges involved £2OO taken between September last year and February 4 of this year, and £lO 7s Id on February 4. Detective-Sergeant E. R. Tyson said the company became aware of shortages in its receipts which were taken from cash registers Stored overnight in a strongroom.
Checks were made on the takings on Friday, February 4. The sum of £lO 4s 7d was then found to be missing. When questioned, Young admitted the theft, saying sin had stolen the money to buy clothes for grandchildren. Over recent months, the company found there were shortages amounting to £343 Is 3d, but Young admitted taking no more than £2OO of this. She had apparently been removing the money during the checking stages for which die and another woman were responsible, said DetectiveSergeant Tyson. O For Young. Mr H. J. Ross, said the thefts were the result of family worries and poor health.
