RUNAWAY FERRY
Suspension Of Engineer fWJK. Press Asm.—CopvriffW SYDNEY, February 12. The engineer at a Sydney harbour ferry was responsible for the “whole disgraceful affair” wben the ferry crashed into a sea-wall, a Court of Marine Inquiry commented today. John Hilton Tait had his third-class marine engineer’s certificate suspended for two months by the court, and the ferry’s master, Captain Oswald Reginald Kell, who was reading a noticeboard at Circular Quay when the terry sailed without him, was severely censured. Judge Arnsberg and two Maritime Service Board officials, Captain J. Ward and Mr H. W. Lees, comprised the court which inquired into the Lady Ferguson’s crash on September 23, last year. The court's decision, which was unanimous, was given today by Judge Arnsberg. He said the terry left Circular Quay on a fine and clear day, on Sunday, September 23, with 100 passengers on board. It travelled 4000 ft across the harbour before crashing into the seawall at Kirribilli. Six passengers were injured.
