FIRE BOARD CHANGE
New Firemen’s Member
Mr T. H. Boyle, a former Christchurch fireman and deputy-chief fire officer in Hastings, who is now a foreman drainlayer, has been elected as the firemen’s representative on the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board. He beat Mr W. H. Mathison, who has been on the board for the last three years and who had previous service on the board, in a ballot. Mr Boyle had a substantial majority in a secret ballot conducted throughout the whole brigade—full-time firemen and officers and volunteers, Mr G. C. Walker, secretary of the Christchurch Fire Brigadesmen’s Union, said last evening. “It is particularly pleasing for the union that a man who is an associate member of the Institution of Fire Engineers, a former president of the Christchurch union, and a man with wide experience in fire-fighting, has consented to stand for this position,” Mr Walker said. “We are sure that the Christchurch metropolitan brigade as a whole will benefit by his membership of the board.”
