AUSTERE MEAL

Showing What Millions Eat (ttJS. Press Assn.—Copyright) PERTH, Feb. 13. Two hundred guests at Government House on February 21 will sit down to the smallest, most austere meal ever served there. The occasion will be the Freedom From Hunger Campaign dinner, and the food will be prepared by dietitians at Royal Perth Hospital. The dinner is to make people aware of the degree of hunger which exists in the world today. Only one person in three is properly fed, say the planners. The dinner will last only 35 minutes. The tables will be set only with forks and glasses. Drink will be provided. The drink will be water. Two hundred Perth citizens will share the meal with the Governor. Each guest will get 148 calories and 3.5 grams of protein, The meal will comprise a cup of rice, a tablespoonful of lentils with curry, beans and a cube of meat. This is the average Southeast Asian’s big meal of the day. An average Australian boy of 12 eats 2425 calories and 87 grams of protein a day, say the dietitians. .
