A much bigger two-tooth ewe offering was keenly sought by a big gallery and the sale, after a moderately quiet opening, was fairly animated and last week’s good rates were again maintained. Some attractive pens of sheep were in the offering and quality generally was a little better.

All classes were in demand, particularly the well-known station lines. A big line of 1274 halfbreds from the Bluff Station, Ltd. (Kekerangu) sold keenly and averaged 63s 3d, with 140 at 69s and only one truck making Under 60s. The best of the Romney and Romney cross made from 82s to 91s, with good at 69s 6d to 75s and average 50s 6d to 575. The pick of the fine-wools sold from 64s to 755, with good at 56s to 62s 6d. average 50s to 54s and small at 35s to 44s 6d. Best Romney-Corriedale cross made from 72s to 775, with good at 67s to 69s 6d. Perendales realised 56s to 645.

Top price of 91s was paid for 100 Romneys from J. L. Walker (Dunsandel) and R. W. Wilson (Prebbleton) sold 180 at 82s to 84s 6d. For Corriedales the top price of 75s was paid for 75 from T. A. Addis (Burra Burra) and F. N. Buttle (Hororata) sold 119 at 745. A. P. Tuer (Hororata) sold 60 Romney-Corriedale cross at 77s and the tops of a line of 144 Perendales from D. A. OLDER EWES There were buyers aplenty for breeding ewes of quality and the older ewe market held soundly to last week’s values in a sale which was described aptly by one stockman a* the curtain raiser to the Canterbury ewe fair round. Several well-known station lines were represented and these Sheep were keenly sought. Throughout the sale there was strong competition and this was reflected in the market for the one-year ewes, which recovered last week’s slight weakening and they were Is to 2s a head dearer, in spite of a fairly big offering in this category. Medium annual draft ewes with a good row of teeth met a keen sale. >

Best four-year-old fine-wool ewes made up to 565, best five-year-olds to 45s 6d, best annual draft to 51s, good old ewes 39s 6d to 45s 6d. average 32s to 38s 6d and one-year ewes and others made from 21s to 30s. The best annual draft Romneys made up to Sis, with good at 39s 6d to 425. average 32s 6d to 37s and others at 24* 6d to 30*. J. S. Scott (Heathcote) sold 136 four-year-old Cbrriedales at 565. and A. T. Stone (Hororata) realised 51s to Shi 6d for 186 annual draft halfbreds. Ngapara Downs, Ltd. (Rangiora), sold four and five-year Romneys at 51s. A smaller entry of wethers continued to meet a sound sale and two-tooth fine-wools sold from 53s 6d to 58s, which was paid for halfbreds from H. M. Good (Kekerangu). Older wethers changed hands at 39s to 45s 6d with one sale at 525. Sales included:—

Waipuna Sheep Sale (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Feb. 13. There was a strong demand for breeding ewes at the annual Waipuna Station ewe fair and a sharp rise in values compared with last year. The yarding was the largest offered yet, comprising 1100 two-tooth ewes, 95 four and six-tooth ewes, 1600 four-year ewes, 593 five-year ewes, 454 ewe lambs, 103 mixed sex lambs, and 550 wether lambs.

The offering of 110 rams, comprising 42 Romneys, 50 Southdowns, 8 Border Leicester*, and 10 South Suffolk* sold fully in line with ruling prices. One one-shear Southdown stud ram from the stud of John Brown (Ashburton) sold at 45 guineas. A featurt of the market was the excellent offering of Romney ewes from the Waipuna Station. These came forward in excellent condition. In spite of a difficult spring the line of 800 two-tooth ewes ranged in price from 63s to £5. averaging £4 5s 9d.

Four-year ewes from Waipuna Station, 1600 in all, had an excellent average of 48s, the top* making 57*. Five-year ewes made up to 40s tor the ewes from the estate J. M. Kennedy (Totara Flat). For the , Romney ram* the top price was 28gns tor a stud ram, and flock rams brought from Sligns to 17gns. Top price tor Soufhdowns was 14>,igns, and others ranged from 3ligns to 13gns. Romney cross ewe lambs made up to 40s, shorn ewe lambs 27s to 365, and wether lambs to 38s.
