ADDINGTON MARKET Sound Demand

All classes of store sheep and lambs sold soundly at Addington Market yesterday in the biggest entry of the season, which exceeded 22,000. Values held soundly to last week’s good rates for the main classes, and one-year ewes recovered last week’s slight easing. There was a bigger, attendance of buyers, and competition on all classes was stronger. There was a keen deqiand for top-quality lambs in forward condition and with good pelts for shearing and fattening, and lighter sorts met a strong inquiry.

Breeding ewes sold strongly and with a number of well-known station lines forward the level of values was some indication of the prices which are likely to prevail over the Canterbury ewe fairs in the next three weeks.

The entry showed a further increase to 22,373 head, compared with 17,746 last week, and included 7567 store lambs (6011 last week), 5467 two-tooth ewes (2104), 9132 odder ewes (8315), and 187 wethers (326). STORE LAMBS Although the store Lamb entry was bigger values held well to the buoyant rates of last week and there was a big gallery following the sale. Quality was probably a little better than last week and there was a good proportion of forward condition lambs in the yarding. From the outset there was good competition, and this was sustained until the last half race when ’ the attendance fell away and values tended to ease slightly. For the rest of the Mie, however, last week's firming was fully maintained. Buyers bid keenly for the top lambs and there was also a strong inquiry for light and medium condition sorts but there was a noticeable gap between the prices paid for the best and the upper limit of the bidding on the medium classes which seemed to peter out about 375.
