Impressive Solo Run By Lordship

DUNEDIN, January 29. A brilliant solo run bv Lordship was the highlight of a comparatively quiet morning at Forbury Park today. The majority of horses were restricted to solid pace work on the main track which was in good order although cutting out a little after overnight rain.

Lordship, driven by his trainer. D. G. Nyhan, was working weU within himself throughout his two miles free-legged in imin 25 l-seec He sprinted keenly from toe half mile with the wind behind him to the straight and took 58 3-seec for toe final four furlongs, hid last quarter in to 2-smc

Lordship has thrived since his arrival in Dunedin and he will be a firm favourite for his Qualifying Heat on Thursday night Van Rebeck and Dark Louise worked comfortably over two miles in 4min 34 4-saec, their last half mile in Imm 2 l-ssec. and their final quarter in 3laec. Both horses were pacing freely at the finish

Dark Louise was a sound fourth in the Stewards’ Handicap last Saturday and toe will form a strong bracket with the first-night winner. Trade Fair, in the Roslyn Handicap on Thursday. Loyal Brigade made toe pace and finished co terms with Notify and Grouse at the end of two miles in 4min 34sec. the last half mile in limn 4 2-Saec. and the final quarter in 31 3-ssec.

The speed went on over the final four furlongs in Imin 2 3-ssec and the last quarter in 31 l-seec. Jay Ar shaded Samantha with Urrall, not driven out, just behind them.

Jay Ar will only have to begin cleanly to make Lordship and Falsehood work hard in the Third Qualifying Heat. Ballista completed some strong work with one mile and a half in 3min 25 3-ssec. The last half mile took Imin 7 2-ssec, and the final quarter 33 3-seec. He began smoothly on Saturday only to break after a stride or two. His stablemate. Dandy Briar, was jogged by his trainer, C. S. Donald. He did not look to be troubled by his off-hind leg. winch has been causing concern. Filet Milton and Sirretta worked easily together. Both look in great order for toe Forbury Three-year-old Handicap on ■ Thursday. Filet Mignon beat Sirretta last Saturday and meets her on 12 yards worse terms on Thursday. Even so.
