LORDSHIP TO MEET FALSEHOOD

Feature Of Heats At Forbury Tomorrow

(From Our Own Reporter)

DUNEDIN, January 29.

The clash between Lordship and Falsehood, the two first night beat winners, which was expected to take place on Saturday in the £2650 final, will now take place in the Third Qualifying Heat of the Dunedin Festival Cup on Thursday.

'The Forbury Parte Club has rather surprisingly drawn these two outstanding pacers in the one heat and as a result the final could be an anti-climax to the meeting.

The outstanding form of Lordship and Falsehood this season suggests that they are a class above most of their rivals and their wins last Saturday confirmed this.

The dub's decision to place them in the coe heat could have been influenced by the fact that Loedshi paod Falsehood would have restricted betting on separate beats. But by putting them together, turnover on their heat could be increased. The other beet on Thursday as a result looks extremely open, with solid support expected for at least lour bones.

Lordship should prove much too brilliant, tor Falsehood at the difference of only six yards in toe handicaps. However, when they met in the Lightning Mile at Addington on January 1, Falsehood forced all the pace and was worn down only after a stem struggle in the straight and was beaten by half a length by Lordship. Lordship has the edge on Falsehood tor brilliance, but if toe Greymouto-owned

Fallacy gelding secures a reasonable run he is certain to make Lordship work hard for victory. Falsehood will be bracketed with Gddirect which looks to have trained on in. grand style since his race on Saturday. Likely Improver Jay Ar, which broke badly on Saturday and took do serious part in hie heat, could adopt toe role of pace-maker. With a dean start he could be a serious threat to both Lordship and Falsehood with his advantage in toe handi-

caps. Urrall and Master Alan share the front mark with Jay Ar. Neither is renowned for pace-making but both raced prominency on Saturday and they look capable of aaotoer bold showing. Smokearway’s placing on Saturday was a sound effort, showing towt be wan far from being a spent force. He finished with a great burst whan an opening came along toe inside about half a fur-

long out and he was going as wett as anything at toe finish.

Invicta would have to improve on his run on Saturday to be a serious threat. However, the race is certain to have benefited him and from 12 yards be cannot be disregarded as a place proapect. Scottish Light, Ballista and Oreti form a likely trio in the Fourth Heat but there will be solid support for the Oamnru pacer, Sun Chief. Scottish Light had his first start since November when he finished boldly for third to Lordship and Light Mood on Saturday. He is an improved home as a result of that run and worked in a most encouraging manner this morning. Scottish Light is a splendid sprinter and he could make an overdue return to winning form in this race.

Dtoap pointed Ballista disappointed on Saturday by breaking just afte rthe start of his heat. It is not often that be makes a mistake and be could easily make amends in this field. Ballista has shown sound front-runntog form in the

past. Oreti finished at the tail of the race won by Falsehood on Saturday, but he did not secure a run in the straight and was not really far from i the winner at the post Oreti looks particularly well and he could do better on Thursday. Sun Chief made little serious impression in thfe , straight in his heat on Saturday, but like sane of the ' others he should be improved by the run. He is a smart . sprinter and could easily earn , sufficient points to entitle i him to Start in Saturday's . final, a ssce be won hollowly ; U months ago. Samantha. which was Just nosed out of third in her heat

last Saturday, looks a better prospect than Grouse or Gay Baron. However, if Grouse begins cleanly she should race prominently a* she looks very well. Inglemead, the VaneeeStormwater bracket and Aiblins form a Ilk el ytrio to rtoe first leg, the Kew Handicap, in which there will also be
