Sir John Hunt For Greece (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, January 29. Sir John Hunt, accompanied by the New’ Zealander, Mr George Lowe, the Himalayan explorer, Major H. R. A. Streather, and the Olympic athlete, Mr John Disley, will lead a party of 22 young men aged between 18 and 21 on a 200-mile journey on foot through the Pindus mountains in Greece next March. The expedition has been organised by the National Association of Youth Clubs in conjunction with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Twenty of the 22 men are holders of the gold award. ’Also in the party will be Lady Hunt and Sir John Hunt and Lady Hunt’s daughter, Susan, who is the wife of Mr Lowe.
The party plans to trek from Delphi across the Pindus mountains by a little known route to Kastoria on the Albanian border. Members will record details of landscape vegetation, birds, plants, rocks, soil, animal life, human settlement, human occupations, weather and archaeological remains. They will be joined by six Greek mountaineers and a number of boys from the national school at Athens.
