Trailing Victoria by 11 runs, New South Wales began its second innings confidently in tfie Sheffield Shield match here today, and raced to an effortless 78 without loss.

Then trouble began with Meckiff, Connolly and West who, spearheading the bowling attack, by stumps had disposed of eight wickets for 201. Meckiff had taken two for 35, West two for 35 and Connolly three for 69. The opening batomen, Saunders and Thomas, both of whom fell to Meckiff, bed scored most with 43 and 49. Earlier, in an inspired spell of spin bowling, the lefthanded J. Martin had bundled Victoria out for 259. His tally today of four for 13 gave him eight for 97 for the innings—his best performance since December, 1957, when he took seven South Australian wickets for 57.
