Capt. T. Stevenson Retiring

After 36 years of sea service, Captain T. Stevenson, a well-known Union Steam Ship Company master, is retiring.

Captain Stevenson, who was born in the Orkney Islands in 1898, joined the company as fourth officer of the Mara ma in 1926. In 1947 he was promoted to master and given command of the Poolta.

In 1949 he was chosen to go to the United Kingdom to take charge of the Kamona for her delivery voyage to Australia and, again in 1956 he travelled to England and commanded the Kumalla on her maiden voyage to Australia.

During his service with the company, Captain Stevenson had charge of 23 vessels, including the Taroona, which he commanded on five different occasions, and the Moonta for the two periods she was operating in Bate Strait while the Taroona was undergoing survey Captain Stevenson's last ship was the Waitomo, of which he relinquished command in October last year.
