A four-man Indian trade mission is In New Zealand trying to double their country’s export of cashew nuts to New Zealand.
India exports about 200 tons of cashew ruts to this country, These are valued about £70,000. India’s annual production of cashews amounts to 40,000 tons and is valued at £2O million.
The leader of the mission, Mr S. G. Nayak, said tonight that India had a virtual monopoly of the cashew nut market. The bulk of the production was exported to the United States—about 25,000 tons a year. The mission will visit Wellington and Christchurch before leaving for Australia Hong Hong and Japan.
