(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI. Jan. 28.
Smith and Smith. Ltdglass merchants, have placed a firm order for 20,000 sq. ft. of 7/32in glass—about 100 tons—with the McKendrick Glass Manufacturing Company at Whangarei. The order, announced today by the glassworks manager (Mr A. C. Burton) was described by him as "not the biggest ’ order ever received by the works, but certainly a sign of confidence in the industry at this stage.” Mr R. Smith, managingdirector of Smith and Smith,, was at the glassworks on Friday and watched some 7/32in glass being drawn. Mr Burton said delivery would be made within the next two to three weeks.
He expected no difficulty in fulfilling the order in this time, but would not commit himself on the daily production of the glassworks.
