TREATMENT COMPLETED
Chinese Leaves Timaru (N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Jan. 27. Cheng Ai Nuen, the Chinese seaman who was left in Timaru for hospital treatment last year after he was found to have tuberculosis in both lungs, left by air for Hong Kong on Saturday. The 46-year-old seaman was quartermaster of the 3867-ton freighter, Daisen, which was loading logs at Timaru for Japan.
He was first admitted to the Timaru Public Hospital on May 12. When the ship was ready to sail Cheng was returned to the vessel, and in protest 21 members of the crew walked off.
The dispute involved police, the Department of Health, shipping agents and customs officials.
Later a £lOOO bond was arranged so that the sick seaman could stay in New Zealand and receive treatment
