Parts Cost £2 An Inch (N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, Dec. 16. "I never thought the result achieved would be possible,'" said the Minister of Works <Mr Goosman) when he opened the reconstructed Waioeka scenic highway on Saturday. From April. 1954, to April, 1962, the National Roads Board had spent £2,626,000 on the 87 miles of road from Gisborne to Opotiki. The expenditure this year was £235,540. In 1963, £155,000 would be spent to complete the job. The ceremony marked the completion of the widening of the road. Three men were killed working on the project, and Mr Goosman unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the completion of the reconstruction work and in remembrance off the dead men, Messrs T. H. Coleman. George Kahika and Puhirake Huritu Campbell. Mr P. Delamere. head of the Ringatu Church, blessed the bronze plaque set in its monument of rock.
