FIRE THREAT TO HOUSES
Blaze In Gorse At Wellington (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 16 Fire threatened 38 Wainui-o-mata homes today. The homes are built around the base of a gorse-clad spur about 100 acres of which was burned in toe four hours before the fire was brought under control In most cases the fire burned the thick gorse to within 50 feet of the souses, but in two cases it came to within 10 feet. Many anxious householders reeled out garden hoses and dampened down growth in their backyards and the gorse at the rear of their properties
