HOUSE LOST IN FIRE
Water Supply Short A single-storey wooden house in Trents road, Prebbleton. wrs gutted by fire on Saturday evening. The occupiers lost ail their possessions aind fumit-'.re. The fire had a good hold when discovered. Units from the Central and Sockburn start.ions and the Papatrua County Council’s fire tender answered a call received at 11.5 p.m. The firemen were hampered by a poor supply • of water. Water was pumped from a stock race but the water level was very low. The dwelling was about 50 or 60 years old but was well preserved and extensive renovations had been carried out. Only the chimney was left standing yesterday morn ing.
The house was owned by Raymond Leslie Mangos and Neil Osborne. The occupants were away when the blaze broke out. The cause of the fire is not known
The blaze attracted a large crowd of onlookers and the Paparua County Council Fire Officer. Mr R J Cooke said last evening that the firemen were hampered by persons who parked their cars close to the fire.
