Avon Scores Two Wins Rowing performances were varied with the best showing being given by the junior class in the inter-club fours regatta at Kerr’s Reach on Saturday. The three Christchurch clubs and the Timaru club competed in the five events, but a number of scratchings caused a curtailing of the programme. Although Avon and Timaru shared the victory with two wins each, one of Timaru’s wins was the result of a row over. In the junior fours the Avon crew came home an easy five lengths ahead of CanterburyNo. 1. although in the heats the Canterbury crew just lost to Avon by half a canvas. In the senior fours a scratch Avon crew beat Timaru by three lengths. Honours in the light-weight fours went to Timaru with a three length win over Union. Results:— Junior Fours—Heat 1: Avon 1, Canterbury No. 1 2, Timaru 3. Half a canvas; three lengths. Heat 2: Union 1, Canterbury No. 22. Two lengths. Final: Avon 1, Canterbury No. 1 2. Union 3. Five lengths; seven lengths. Novice Fours—Heat 1: Canterbury No. 1 1. Canterbury No. 22. Distance. Heat 2: Union 1. Avon 2. One length. Final: Canterbury No. 1 1. Union 2. Six lengths. Senior Fours.—Avon 1, Timaru 2. Three lengths. Youths’ Fours.—Timaru, a row over. Light-weight Fours.—Timaru 1, Union 2. Avon 3. Three lengths; distance.
