REPRESENTATIVE MATCH PROPOSED
Annual Fixture For Sub-Associations A representative golf match may be played between teams from North Canterbury’ Templeton Cup area and Mid-South Canterbury sub-association next The proposals provide for a match between teams of 12 players during a week-end. with foursomes being played on a Saturday afternoon and singles on a Sunday morning Rangiora has been suggested as the venue of the first match.
As the match is intended to have representative status, players will be chosen from the best available, and not limited in the case of North Canterbury. for example, to players taking part in the Templeton Cup competition. It is hoped that the match will lead up to the establishment of a fixture between players from the Christchurch metropolitan area and the other combined areas whose players would then have more opportunity of coming to the notice of the Canterbury selectors.
Progress on negotiations for the match with Mid-South Canterbury was reported to the annual meeting of the North Canterbury Inter-club Golf Committee at Culverden. The incoming committee was directed to pursue the matter with a view to holding the first match next season.
