Suicide Report Confirmed

November 29 The United States Defence Department confirmed today that one of the reasons for a new order on control of nuclear weapons was a 1958 incident in which an airman threatened to commit suicide by shooting his automatic revolver into an atomic bomb, the Associated Press reported The department added however, that the shots would not have caused an atomic explosion. although they might have set off the TNT trigger. The incident was reported yesterday in the ‘‘Newark Star Ledger,” when it reported the department's order requiring emotional disturbance tests for all servicemen handling nuclear devices.

Denmark, Nigeria, India and Portugal signed the 1962 International Coffee Agreement yesterday, bringing the number oTsignatories to 47. The five-year agreement imposes production quotas in a bid to stabilise the world coffee market.
