GARDEN FAIR TO BE HELD
Funds For Hospice For Aged
To raise funds for a new 27-bed hospice for the sick and frail aged, the Social Service Council of the Church of England will hold a garden fair in the grounds of Churchill Courts, Stapletons road, on Saturday. The fair will be opened by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren), at 1.30 pan., and will have stalls, side-shows, and afternoon teas as attractions. If the weather is wet, the fair will be held in the Churchill Courts buildings. In the hospice, which is to be built on land adjoining Churchill Courts, will be nursed inmates of Churchill Courts and Fitzgerald House, which are homes for the aged operated by the council. The hospice will also provide short-time care for aged persons who are being cared for in their own homes. The estimated cost of the building, which will be completed in 12 months, is about £BO,OOO. A large proportion of this has been provided by Government subsidy, but the council has to raise £5OOO, and the cost of furnishing and equipping the hospice.
