Table Tennis Dunn, Miss Davis, Retain Titles

M. L. Dunn (Wellington) and Miss N. Davis (Northland) won the men’s and women’s singles titles for the third successive year, when the New Zealand table tennis championships were concluded at the Cowles Stadium last night. Runners-up were A. R. Tomlinson (Auckland) and Miss N. J. Attwood (Northland).

Although Tomlinson took one game from Dunn, and should have had another, there was no doubt as to the superiority of the title holder. He hit backhands and forehands with great speed and although Tomlinson counter-hit well, the title was always Dunn's. Misses Davis and Attwood had a long match, with the latter content to keep the ball in play, and Miss Davis seeking an opening for a winning drive. Canterbury took a share in the women's doubles when Mrs J. Green partnered MLss Davis to victory in defence of the title Taken To Five Games The other Canterbury pairs which reached the open semifinals. Mesdames M. J. Shadbolt and T. May in the women's doubles, and V. N. Brightwell and Mrs Y Boulton in the mixed doubles, both did well to extend the eventual winners to five games. Miss J.
