CORONARY DISEASE
New Findings On Death Risks (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON, Aug. 30. There was no need for people to restrict themselves from several “ordinary pleasures of life” to avoid death from coronary thrombosis, according to a report quoted by “The Times” medical correspondent today. The correspondent said the conclusions in the report had been reached by the Medical Officer of Health for Cheshire after an analysis of the deaths from coronary disease in Cheshire over a period of 17 months. Quoting the report, “The Times” said it stated that there was “no evidence to establish that family circumstances, holidays, consumption of fat, alcohol or tea. times of meals or of rising or going to bed. participation in sport or games, visits to club or hotel, employment (in the case of women), addiction to radio or television, overtime or night working, and whether the job was manual or not. heavy or light, affect the likelihood of death from coronary thrombosis.” “The Times” said the report indicated that the “definitely adverse factors apparently increasing the risk of death from coronary heart disease were smoking cigarettes, a sedentary job. a family history of coronary disease, and a ‘worrying and introspective temoerament.’
“Two interesting and somewhat unexpected findings are that apparently playing bowls is an antidote to at least the more acute forms of coronary thrombosis and that there were significantly fewer deaths from coronary thrombosis among coffee drinkers." the newspaper said.
