The Rev. B. J. Machell, vicar of Richmond, and the Rev. F. J. Ford, vicar of Murchison, have been appointed canons of Christ Church Cathedral, Nelson. Canon Machell has been secretary of the Nelson Diocesan Missionary Committee since 1957 and has represented the Church of the province at faith and order conferences. Canon Ford has been secretary of the Diocesan Youth Council since 1952, and has taken a lead in provincial conferences. The appointments were announced by the Bishop of Nelson (the Right Rev F O. HulmeMoir).
Dr. M. L. McGlashan, who holds the position of Reader in Chemistry at Reading University, England, received this year his degree of doctor of science at the university. Dr. McGlashan was lecturer in chemistry at Canterbury University in 1949 and two years later he took his doctorate in philosophy at Reading University as the first Sims Empire Scholar from New Zeala’nd. On his return to Canterbury University. Dr. McGlashan was promoted to senior lecturer in chemistry and in 1953 he accepted an appointment as senior lecturer in chemistry at Reading University.
