HOVERCRAFT SERVICE
Proposal For Wellington
(NZ. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Aug. 23.
The nucleus of a company to operate hovercrafts on Wellington harbour had been formed and a service should be established within two years, the Deputy Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr G. L. Barker) said today. "The only thing holding us up is that the manufacturers have not yet got down to mass production ” Details had been discussed with English and Dutch companies and the type of hovercraft used would be about 24 tons and capable of carrying 80 passengers. After the establishment of ■ Hutt service, a second service linking the city with Wellington airport would come, said Mr Barker. An Eastbourne connexion would be a “sitter." Plans were also being made to run hydrofoil waiter taxis carrying eight passengers.
