INCREASE IN WAGES
Drainage Board’s Policy
The Christchurch Drainage Board agreed on Tuesday evening that the 2J per cent, general wage increase ordered by the Court of Arbitration should be paid to all employees not covered by awards or agreements, but fixed a maximum of 10s a week or £26 a year. For the only two groups at present on actual award rates of pay—labourers and plant engineers—the board agreed to the 2*4 per cent, increase.
Outside those two groups, employees were not covered automatically either because they did not have awards or agreements or were being paid above award rates, a special committee reported.
