YOUNG MAN KILLED
Collision Near Washdyke (NJJ. Press TIMARU, August 19. A young Temuka man died after an accident on the main road at Washdyke at 3.55 a.m. on Saturday. He was Donald Gilmour Fleming, aged 22. a clerk, of 57 Railway terrace. Temuka. He was a son of Mr and Mrs S. G. Fleming, of Temuka.
Four other persons were involved in the accident. One fractured a leg. Mr Fleming was driving north in a small car and Dudley Noel Taylor, of 37 Hassall street Timaru, was travelling south in a big car when the vehicles met about 200 yards north of the Washdyke railway crossing. A St. John ambulance took all five occupants of the cars to the Timaru Hospital. Mr Fleming was dead on arrival. Mr Taylor was treated at the outpatients’ department and allowed to go home. The three passengers in his car were admitted to the hospital. The condition of each was reported tonight as satisfactory. Douglas Henderson, of 5 Hatton street, fractured a leg and suffered facial abrasions in the crash. Rangi Ormsby, of Church street, and Maureen Mawhinney, of 6 Buchanan street, were admitted to hospital for observation. Both cars appear to be damaged beyond repair.
