Badminton DIVISION III TEAM WINS
S. Canterbury Beaten 12-4
Canterbury’s Division 111 representative badminton side experienced little difficulty in beating South Canterbury at Timaru on Saturday evening. This Win, by 12 matches to 4, has won the zone for Canterbury. and the team will meet the southern zone winner in the South Island Division 111 final on September 8. In the top men s singles Ho Ya Yen was too strong for South Canterbury’s E. RShrimpton, and Canterbury s other men players enjoyed similar successes. The womens matches were more even, with the home team sharing the women’s singles and women s doubles. The former Canterbury University player, Miss J. Beck, won two matches for South Canterbury. Results (Canterbury names first): were:— Men’s Singles.—Ho Ya Yen beat E. R. Shrimpton, 15-4,15-8; S. F. Clarke beat R. Chester, 15-10, 7-15. 15-9; E. Ogier beat H. Cox, 15-6, 15-10; B. Fowler beat P. Ryan. 15-7. 15-11. Women’s Singles—Miss M. Wilson beat Mrs G. Adams, 11-9, 11-1; Miss C. Parris lost to Miss J Beck. 8-11, 7-11; Miss M. Inglis lost to Miss D. Souter, 3-11, 0-11; Miss N. Williams beat Mrs D. Tavendale, 11-12, "Men’s Doubles. —Yen and Clarke beat Shrlmpton and Chester. 15-3, 18-17; Ogier and Fowler beat Cox and Ryan, 15-11, 15-5. Women’s Doubles. Misses Wilson and Parris beat Mrs Adams and Miss Beck, 15-11, 15-12; Misses Inglis and Williams lost to Miss Souter and Mrs Tavendale, 7-15, 2-15. Mixed Doubles. —Clarke and Miss Wilson beat Shrimpton and Mrs Adams, 15-10, 15-7; Yen and Miss Inglis beat .Chester and Miss Souter, 15-4, 15-8; Ogier and Miss Parris lost to Cox and Miss Bock, 14-15. 7-15; Fowler and Miss Williams beat Ryan and Mrs Tavendale, 151 Canterbury won by 12 matches to 4.
