ASSAULT ON CONSTABLE
Man To Face Charge (N Z Press Assocmtion) WHAKATANE. Aug 1. A 24-year-old married man was arrested in Kawerau this morning in connexion with an assault of a policeman on July 28 Constable G H Stamp was patrolling at the rear of shops in Kawerau on Friday night when he was attacked by a man attempting to break into a men’s outfitters The constable was knocked unconscious with a tyre level and his assailant escaped in the darkness The man arrested will appear in the Whakatane Magistrate's Court tomorrow Constable Stamp was on du y again today at Kawerau
