PARISH MISSION AID
Presbytery Gives Support
Support for the Presbyterian Assembly’s endeavours to obtain financial assistance for parishes with insufficient funds to fulfil their mission was approved at a meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery.
The Rev. M. W. Wilson said he was in favour, providing the money was spent wisely. “Some churches are desperately seeking a mission, and are kept going only by a small, loyal band out of sheer sentimental attachment to the past," be said. “We must realise that the time comes when a church must pack up and move on.” The Rev. C. McCaskill said: “We should please God, not men—if we give our O.K. for funds to the assembly, the matter Should be on the presbytery’s conscience, not on the parishes’.”
