LAND TRANSFERS DOWN
Mortgages Also Fall Land transfers during the year ended March 31, 1962, decreased both in number and value, says the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker). Transfers involving town and suburban properties decreased from 52,233 in 1960-61 to 49,358 in 1961-62. Value fell from £119.9 million to £116.7 million. Country property transfers drooped from 9179 (£67.9 million) to 8455 (£63.3 million). Consideration for all properties was £lBO million compared with £lB7 8 million. Mortgages registered and discharged also fell in number, from 64,637 to 62,551. The amount secured, however, rose from £154.1 million to £168.5 million. Mortgages discharged fell to 44.494 (£66.9 million) from 46,474 (£68.3 million). Of the 1961-62 mortgages registered 51.109 (£lO5 8’ million) were on town and suburban properties and 11.442 (£62.7 million) on country properties.
