ROAD TO TUNNEL
Contract For Ashburton (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 25. A construction contract for 70 chains of access roading for the Lyttelton tunnel has been awarded to Burnett Motors. Ltd., Ashburton. Announcing this today, the Minister of Works (Mr Goosman) said the company’s tender of £21,108 had been chosen from several offered. The construction would extend the access roading from the railway to the Heathcote river opposite Ferry road, said Mr Goosman. The construction and formation involved the loading, carting and spreading of 90,000 cubic yards of material taken from tunnel excavations and stockpiled near the railway junction with the new road.
