New Belgian Minister
(NJS. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 22. The Belgian Government has designated Count Thierry de Lichtervelde as Minister of Belgium in New Zealand Count Thierry, who was born in 1908, entered his country’s diplomatic service in 1936. He has occupied posts in Tangiers, The Hague, Jerusalem, Bayreuth and Sydney. He is at present Charge d’Affaires at Colombo It is expected that Count Thierry will arrive in New Zealand at the end of June.
Chinese Refugees.— The number of illegal immigrants entering Hong Kong from China jumped again yesterday to nearly 5000, according to an authoritative count made in the border area.— Hong Kong, May 21.
