Lucky Buy For Mr Dufty
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 20. A Waikato owner. Mr F. C. Johnstone, had some reason to consider himself unlucky when Balzac won the Tyler Handicap at Te Rapa yesterday.
Mr Johnstone bought Balzac toward the end of last season for 450gns, hoping the gelding might make a jumper, but when it seemed that Balzac had no liking for soft ground his owner sold him at auction for 60gns to Mr C. M. R. Dufty, of Rotorua.
In the Tyler Handican, Straight Time, carrying Mr Johnstone’s colours, was an unplaced favourite and Balzac won at odds of 80 to 1.
